ActiveSync /w Treo650 & other Devices |
|
|
Hello,
Just a poll more than anything I guess. Was wondering if anyone had any
Treo 650's connecting directly to Exchange 2003 via ActiveSync? I noticed
the 650 will connect directly to the Inbox & Calendar (not Contacts) but was
wondering if anyone has actually been successful and if there is anything I
should be aware of prior to setting it up? Like problems specifically to
the Treo 650, Exchange settings, firewall settings, etc. Also, do you need
a public certificate with the Treo 650? I know Windows Mobile 2005 you
don't, can't remember if need a public with 2003 2nd edition or not...know
you do with older versions.
Then what are people using out there and happy with, both from admin
perspective and user perspective. I kinda like the new iPaq 6500 series,
but 240x240, no wifi, and only 2003 2nd edition...6700's are supposed to fix
all that though (except 240x240 I think). Treo 700w looks nice too when it
comes out, but also 240x240. HTC Universal looks like it'll be nice too.
Always waiting for that perfect device, but if you keep waiting you'll never
get anything because something better is always right around the corner.
Thanks,
Brian

I haven't.
That's why I was asking. I've never setup a mobile device to connect
directly to Exchange. I know that up until either Windows Mobile 2003 2nd
Edition or 2005 (can't remember which) you need to use a public SSL
certificate because the OS on the mobile device doesn't support untrusted
certs. Which means you have to buy one through a vendor.
But I was wondering if anyone has been successful or unsuccesful in setting
up a Treo 650 to connect to Exchange via ActiveSync since it's the only
non-Windows mobile device I know of that you supposedly can. Also, don't
know if anything else has to be done to get any ActiveSync communication to
work, Windows or non-Windows devices.

Not quite accurate. There is a utility you can download from Microsoft
for the pocket pc platform that allows you to disable the SSL cert
check on your pocket pc. We use a global SSL key from freessl.com that
is not recognized. This utility allowed us to remove the check on our
HP Ipaq's and connect to the Exchange server.
