Hi
Having an interest issue with mail delivery in Exchange
The domain is a W2k domain which has been forest and ad preped for 2k3
The existing Exchange is E2K3 SP1 on server A which is a DC, W2k4 SP4
A new server B has been installed also a DC - W2K3 SP1
(I know not best prectice to have exchange on the DC but there ya go)
Exchange 2K3 has been in stalled on server B and SP2 installed also.
All good there
I have moved a mailbox (call is bill) from server A to server B which worked
ok.
I then sent an email from bill to a mail box on server A which worked ok, I
sent an email to an external mail box which also worked ok. When I send an
email from a mail box on server A to bill on server B or from an external
mailsource to bill is when the issue occurs.
The mail does't get delivered and sits in the SMTP queue to server B (on
server A) - the queue state goes from active to retry but nothing seems to
happen.
I am not able to get back to the server until Monday but know that I need to
turn diagnostic logging on.

Any tips or advice gratefully received as this is a bit of a show stopper

I would turn diagnostic loggin on like you said.

Did you happen to do a cross site migration? You may want to remove the
Legacy DN names and try it again after AD replicated.

I had the same issue when doing a cross site migration and once I removed
the legacy DN name (X.400) it was routed correctly. It is possible the X.400
addressing is incorrect.

Let me know if this is not the case and I will continue working with you on
it. There could be more we can try.

Hi
The migration is not a cross site migration - its all in the same site. I've
turned on diagnostics and let that run which showed server B dropping the
SMTP connections
I tried as an experiment creating a new Exchange site and moving server B
into that site then sending mail to it but similar issues - unabel to connect.
Approachign the issue from a different direction I looekd at simply
directing mail from the external to server B then server B can pass it on to
server A. This works so rather than diagnose the whole issue I have decided
to simply migrate the mailboxes and public folders from server A to server B
and change the mail flow rules. All tested as a valid option so will be
easier than trouble shooting the issue
Thanks for tips and also for responding on this one
