I've brought up a new Exchange 2003 server on new hardware on a network
with an existing Exchange 2003 server, i've moved all the mailboxes,
public folder replication just wouldnt work so I backed up the non
system folders to pst and did all the other bits etc and everyone is
working fine on the new server whether the old one is online or not but
i'm getting errors syncing the offline address book and it will not
rebuild, some users get permissions errors and others just say "error
syncing" and the exchange event log reports that its the OAB.

I've still got access to the old box if required but i'd obviously like
to get the OAB rebuilt and working.

On another note, i still cannot remove the old exchange box as it says
it still has user mailboxes but it clearly doesnt apart from system
attendant etc which you cant delete, is it possible there are some
orphaned users who it THINKS still have mailboxes on it which dont, how
do i find these.

I has the same problem with two exchange servers, with Windows 2003 SP1
installed.
If Win2k3 SP1 is installed, you must be sure that all fixes post sp1 are
installed too.
If so, check this note, that describes all the steps to change the exchange
server, or to remove the first exchange from a site:
