I have an enviornment that is using lotus notes and exchange, and the
connector betweeen the two keeps dropping out. I want to convert the
connector to use SMTP vs. MAPI/RPCs and I cannot really find any documenation
on this. I thought it was as simple as going into the address space and
changing that type from notes, to SMTP but that is not it. grrrrr

I have read this article, and it basically gives no configuraiton tips on
the connector, only theory (which is good, but I need admin vs. engineer
help!).

We have a split domain space with incoming coming into the exchange, we want
to keep the connector so that we can have the address book syncronization,
but we want to use SMTP instead, so we have to configure the connector not to
use SMTP. I found instructions for 2000, but none for a 2003 server
installation. Can you provide any direction?

Thanks!

Are you using the newly released Notes connector? If not you may want to see
if it will work better for you.

Another option would be to use MIIS for long term Directory Synchronization.

Thanks for the response. We do have the new connector in place, but this
connector and its services have failed me so many times that I want to use
SMTP, that is what it was designed to do between the two systems anyways you
know? We did do the update and I am not going to lie to you I *THINK* things
are better but this is the holiday season. The queues on MTS-OUT stay at a
healthy 300 messages or so which is good, but I would just for my own sanity
like to switch to SMTP.

Do you have any information on that process?

To add to my last statement once you have MIIS Directory Sychronization going
you can use SMTP to route mail between servers. Some people do this to avoid
the connector and use one of the tools to do the migration.

I do alot of Notes to Exchange 2003 migrations and I feel your pain. Its
not a solution I would want in place for long. Unfortunately by design that
is how the Notes Connector works.

Are you planning on doing a migration in the near future or is it just a way
to coexist with another mail system you have?

I gotcha, so you are using 3rd party then just running with the SMTP split
namespace. Unfortunatly my hadns are tied and I can only use the tools
available to run the two split name spaces. These two systems are going to
coexist between one another for some time, and I know microsoft doesnt
reccomend running them for long periods of time:(. MIIS definatly sounds like
it would work, but I have to do this using the connector or any other tools
that are present by default.:( It sucks!

Can they make it any easier on you...lol

ya MIIS will cost money so will the third party tools. Unfortunately you
may have to keep the Connector in place for now.

You should convince them to start migrating to Exchange, end the madness.

A good migration tool out is the Quest Notes Migrator formally Wingra.
http://wm.quest.com/products/notesmigratorexchange/

I am getting ready to start a project that will be migrating over 100,000
notes users using this tool. It works quite well.

I can get someone from my company to come in with MS and do a presentation if
you want :)

www.avanade.com

That may help convince them to migrate over.
