I currently have installed SBS2003 and would like to add OWA capabilities.
Our emails are being hosted by our ISP for BCP purposes. We have set up the
POP3 connector in Exchange2003 to bring down the messages to our server as
well as manage all of the internal emails. Currently, we have an internet
static IP on our router, but the server has an internal IP i.e. 192.168.1.10.
Any help on configuring this environment is greatly appreciated. Also, I
would like to perform this task without compromising our network if possible.

Thanks,
Ralph

Are you running ISA Server with SBS 2003? If so there is a OWA Wizard you
can run to setup the appropriate rules.

If not, simply run the ICW from SBS Administrator Console.

Do not forget to configure your Router to forward all HTTP and HTTPs traffic
to 192.168.1.10.

FYI: If you already have Static IP from your ISP then why not host your own
SMTP server with Exchange? BCP?

OK. Do I have to make any changes in my DNS or my ISP DNS to be able to find
my server. i.e add an A Record pointing to my IP or something like that?
Also I'm worried that if I foward those ports I can be exposing my internal
network to hackers or malicious viruses. Is this safe for me to do?

If you are going to host your own SMTP server, then you will have update
your A and MX record to point to your Router IP. Here is a good article
explaining this setup, http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF002.html

Your second question regarding forwarding your ports, this is very secure.
Since you are running SBS 2003, you can either run ICW or ISA 2000 Server to
protect your server in additon to NAT'ing. NAT'ing and running a firewall
are the most secure methods to protecting your network.

How about if we decide not to host our own SMTP, but we just want access to
OWA? Which record(s) would we have to update on the DNS server if we would
like to associated with the following (mail.mydomain.com) and which ports do
we need to forward?

Would need to create a A record for your domain mail.myserver.com pointing
to the Router IP. Ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) will need to setup for
forwarding on your Router.
