User not receiving email and outgoing email not being delive |
|
|
On MS Small Business server 2000, Windows XP Client, currently about 10
users. One user all of a sudden is not receiving email nor is his outgoing
email being delivered. When I look in the "Message tracking center" in
Exchange System Manager and do a search for email addressed to the user or
email sent by user, the "message history" shows as being delivered to users
email address for incoming messages, but messages not appearing in user's
inbox. Not getting any NDR or any error messages. Anyone have any ideas as
to what could be the problem?

If the user switches folders in Outlook, do the items show up? If yes and
since you mention XP, has SP2 for Windows XP been applied lately? Is the
built-in firewall on?
/neo
ps - please post what version of outlook the clients use. there are some
things that can be tried if you want to keep the firewall on since all it
means is outlook is not receiving a udp data packet from exchange.

- All items in all the folders do show up. Only most recent email from 12-17
forward do not show up in the inbox
- No SP2 for Windows XP
The outlook version is the current version (2003). I figured out that it's
a synchronization issue. When I look under "Syn Issues" the logs shows
"Error synchronizing folder" errors for the inbox. The error is " The item
was found to contain a virus that could not be cleaned. For more
information, contact your Exchange server administrator" I am able to open
up the user's inbox through another user's PC. I can see the current unread
email items. It looks like there are a couple junk emails containing what
seems to be the "W32.Erkez.D@mm" which was already caught by the antivirus on
the server, however I am unable to delete those messages since I get an error
that it's unable to delete that/those messages. It looks like these email
messages that I can't delete are what are causing the synch problem. I tried
deleting the user's outlook.ost file so a new one would be created, but same
problem again when synching the inbox folder with exchange.
So not sure what to do now, was considering deleteing/purging user's mailbox
and recreating, you think that's a good idea or do u have other suggestion?

That is definitely a sure fire way to do it. Before going that route, have
you tried deleting via OWA?

Got it!! Actually yes, prior to reading this last post I just tried through
OWA and I was able to delete the offending emails and empty the "deleted
items" folder. Logged back into outlook and was ably to synch inbox again.
!!
Thanks for your help, appreciate it.
