Recover deleted items doesn't work as expected |
|
|
Hi,
I'm running Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on a Windows Server
2003.
I enabled the function to "Keep Deleted Items for 7 days".
When I empty my Deleted Items folder in Outlook 2003/XP the Recover Deleted
Items
is available and I can view the items I just removed from the Deleted Items
folder.
When I close Outlook and start it again the options "Recover Deleted Items"
is grayed-out.
I added the registry key "DumpsterAlwaysOn" in the Outlook options and set
it to value 1.
Now I can always click on "Recover Deleted Items", though the list is empty.
Can someone tell me what is causing this behaviour?
Warm regards,
Bart

Are you using cached mode? I've seen odd behavior like this using cached
mode...and have read reports of others experiencing same (in the OL
newsgroups). I haven't seen any fixes, though. If you want to test, try
disabling cached mode & trying anew, to see if it's the issue.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not using cached mode.
I tested the "Recover Deleted Items" function with Outlook XP and Outlook
2003.
They both have the described problems with the Dumpster.
I also noticed that the Dumpster does its job in Exchange.
When I access the Dumpster it in the same Outlook session I see the
Deleted Items of the previous days.
After closing Outlook the list is empty.
When I delete one message and empty the deleted items folder,
the "Recovcer Deleted Items" option is available and shows a full list
of the Deleted Items of the past 7 days.

Oh - then it sounds like DIR is working fine.
Since you added the regkey (DumpsterAlwaysOn) you must've read the
corresponding text that explained why you might want to do that, right?
