Strange things happening after Exchange server Reboot |
|
|
Hi,
I have been rebooting my Exchange server during business time and I have
seen some side effects I can't explain.
Server is running W2K server SP4, and Exchange is Exchange 2K.
To summarize :
Users have closed (mainly) their Outlook client
Servers has been rebooted (due do backup tape blocekd in the drive and
not recognized as inserted)
When Outlook was restarted. it hung on 25% of the machines (no matter if
Outlook was stopped before the shutdown or not).
Problem has been fixed or by reboot, of by renewing the IP address
(Outlook was the only soft in trouble on the PC)
What's annoying me here is that the Exchange server does not do anything
else than Exchange (it's a member only server, not extra soft installed, but
ArcServe for local Exchange backup), and so, I do not see why renewing the
IP helped to fix the issue.
Nothing to be found in Eventlog or any system logs on both server and faulty
machines
Any input will be welcome,
Chris V.

Ooops. Don't you get yelled at for that?

They all need to - and need to make sure outlook.exe is really truly *not*
running in the background (task manager). Logging out is more sure-fire.

This is one reason why external tape drives are pretty much mandatory in my
book. :)
If you're having lots of problems like this, rebooting the server is merely
a bandaid - you may need to replace your tape drive if it's gone bad.

Check task manager after the users close outlook....or have them all log out
first completely to see if it still happens.
