My internal Domain and Public domain use different domain extentions. We are
Dudek.com Publicly and Dudek.int internally. Several mail servers
intermittently reject our email with this meaasage:
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server.
Please contact your system administrator. <corp-email.dudek.int #5.5.0
smtp;550 relaying to <username@domain-name.com> prohibited by administrator>

I can see the problem, they think it's coming from Dudek.int and there is no
DNS lookup for that domain. How do I get my Exchange server to send mail as
if it was from Dudek.com as it actually is, so that it matches our public DNS
and these mail servers will see that and accept it. Should I the Default
Virtual SMTP server box and change the FQDN or enter a Masquerade Domain?

Question 2. If I do this will I have to put up a DNS entry for
corp-email.dudek.com or will our current MX record (mail.dudek.com) work?

Thanks,

Michael,
I had the same problem. What I did was change the fqdn in the smtp virtual
server to point to my public domain name. I have a front and a back end
server so I changed it in both places. Also I pointed to external dns servers
in smtp as well.
The way I tested was telnetting to the external address of my mail server,
after helo it will state the fqdn.
P.S. I don't know what kind of firewall you operate behind but if it's a PIX
make sure that you clear the xlate. Good Luck....

Thanks Mark,
I thought so I just wanted some conformation before I made changes to our
mail server that I wasn't sure about.

Thanks again, I'll try that tomorrow,
Michael
