Clustering Exchange 2003 |
|
|
Hi, I am fairly new to Clustering. I have 2 x IBM x335 Servers. Both servers
are running windows 2003 Ent. I think I have made a mistake as I have run up
Exchange 2003 Ent on one of the Servers, without having configured and setup
the Cluster first... am I stuffed ? can I still cluster exchange ?? do I need
to reinstall ?
Regards
Alex

Other than the 2 servers there are a bunch of other considerations that you
need to consider, or that you may have already considered. Two to start
with:
1) Shared disk (do you have a shared external array attached to these 2
computers?)
2) 2nd Network Card with a crossover (preferably) for the cluster
heartbeat?
You do have an option, you can run something like Veritas' clustering or
Legato's AAM clustering. This is probably not what you want to do, but the
option is there. I know people that have worked with both products. Legato
gives you a good Active-Passive failover environment. Note that both
products take a little bit of work to implement, but nothing severe.
I have worked with Legato's product in a local active/passive configuration
over the past 3 months and it is a very solid product.

Bob
