Moving Exchange 2K to new hardware with same name and IP add

I need to move an existing Exchange 2000 installation to a new server whilst
keeping the same server name and IP address. I am using a KB article 297289
to assist me and it seems a pretty straight forward task

Step 4 in the article states that you should "bring the server server online
using the same server name". This is after you have followed the previous
steps of backing up the storage groups and resetting the machine account for
    the existing server.

My questiion is this - can I build the new server in advance as a member of
a workgroup and then join the domain with the server name whose account has
been reset prior to step 4?

My motive for doing this is simply to save time. I will need to do this on a
weekend and would like to do as much as possible in advance. Setting up the
OS (W2K server) and installing other sopftware in advance could mean that I
might be able to knock this task off in half a day and have the rest of the
    weekend back as my own!

    Thanks in advance

You can build and service pack it, outside of the domain with any name
you want. When you are ready you rename and reboot.
