Exchange POP3 and Laptop Users - How to setup

OK, I have an exchange server, I have laptop users who take their computers
with them (obviously) and want to get there mail. I would also like for
their mail to be backed up using Veritas Backup Exec With Exchange Server
    plugin.

Is the proper way to do this to setup all laptops as Pop3 accounts and just
select the leave mail on this server option? and the workstations as
    Microsoft Exchange Server?

Or should I set them all up as Pop3? or should I somehow change based upon
where they are, Office or Remote how they check their mail?

    Thanks
    Michael

Didnt wanna use OWA because the customer wants to use Outlook 100% of the
    time

Origionally i hadnt told them RPC/HTTP was a option because their previous
network admin put 2000 on their laptops - however, i have convinced them
that XP SP2 is the proper way to go in this endevour or at least XP with the
    neccisary patch.

    Thanks
