How does E2K SP2 backup without using PAT files?

    Hello

I read an article about how E2K SP2 does not use PAT files to avoid the
problems of missing or corrupted PAT files preventing hard recovery. However,
the article did not explain what alternative mechanism is used in place of
PAT files. Can anyone provide a detailed explanation for this?

    Thanks

in the same article describes how Exchange now replays log files (both soft
    and hard recovery).
