1 Exchange server with child or trusted domains?

We've got two 2003 DCs, one 2003 Exchange server, native mode on both.
Setting up a remote office for about 10 users, connected via VPN. Looking to
setup another server there as well to host roaming profiles and documents
for them. Using Outlook 2003 as client. Trying to decide whether to go with
a child domain controller, or another replicating DC (not sure which would
most effectively cut down traffic over the VPN). We also aren't sure how we
want to handle Exchange server. Could we put some sort of caching Exchange
server over there, or do we even need to with Outlook 2003's caching
optimizations? Can users on a child or trusted domain access an Exchange
server on the other domain? We may also be merging with another company and
have another site setup via VPN with a trusted domain. Trying to come up
    with a smooth plan...

Any tips or ideas would be great from other's experiences!

    Thanks!

    Hi Aaron,

An additional domain controller for your existing domain is most likely the
best choice. You can setup the site link replication to run infrequently to
minimize traffic over the WAN. Without knowing the VPN bandwidth, and what
sort of users these are, I'd imagine OLK2003 w/ cached mode is probably ok,
but given more info I might be able to make a more educated guess here.
